A Life Without Words. A Legacy That Still Speaks.

Ian lost much of his ability to speak when he was very young, but his life was never silent.

Through the people he touched, the love he gave without words, the miracles that surrounded his journey, and the lessons that remained after he was gone, Ian taught us that a life does not need a voice to have something profound to say.

Finding Ian was created to carry that message forward.

What began as one mother's promise to tell her son's story has grown into something larger: a mission to help grieving families feel less alone, to help caregivers feel seen, to bring greater understanding to families living with disability, and to offer hope to those trying to hold onto faith when life no longer makes sense.

We cannot change the chapters others are being asked to walk through.

But perhaps, through Ian's story, we can help make sure they do not have to walk through them alone.

Our Mission

Finding Ian exists so that no family walking through the darkest chapters of life has to believe they are walking alone.

Ian’s story was never meant to remain only our family’s story.

Through years of disability, the loss of his voice, an unexpected and devastating illness, months of uncertainty, sacred moments of ministering, miracles we could not explain away, and ultimately the loss of our son, we learned that faith does not always mean receiving the ending we desperately prayed for. Sometimes faith means discovering that God is still present when the miracle we wanted is not the miracle we receive.

Our mission is to take what our family learned in those darkest places and turn it outward—to offer hope to the grieving, understanding to the misunderstood, strength to exhausted caregivers, and companionship to families facing circumstances they never imagined they would have to endure.

We want Ian’s life to help people see the person beyond a disability, recognize the sacred work being done quietly inside struggling families, and understand that some of the most powerful acts of Christlike love happen far from public view—in hospital rooms, beside bedsides, within homes, and in the simple decision to keep showing up for someone who is hurting.

Finding Ian is not a story about having perfect faith. It is a story about continuing to reach for God when life no longer makes sense.

It is our hope that Ian’s story becomes a light carried from one hurting person to another—a reminder that grief and faith can exist together, that miracles sometimes arrive in unexpected forms, and that a life does not have to be long, loud, or understood by the world to leave an eternal imprint upon it.

Ian lost much of his ability to speak as a little boy.

But his life still had something to say.

Our mission is to help make sure his message continues to be heard—and that through his story, someone walking through their own darkness finds enough light to take one more step.

Heart to heart. Person to person. Story to story.

We believe change often begins with one person.

One heart encounters Ian’s story and carries something from it forward. That person shares it with someone who is grieving, caregiving, navigating disability, or struggling to hold onto faith. And then that person carries the light to someone else.

One heart becomes another. One story becomes another. And little by little, no one has to walk through the darkness alone.

Our Vision

We envision Finding Ian becoming more than the story of one boy and one family.

Our vision is to create a place where grieving families know they are not alone, caregivers feel seen, individuals with disabilities are recognized for the lives and light behind their limitations, and those struggling with faith are reminded that God can still be present even when life does not unfold as they hoped or prayed.

We hope to build a community rooted in compassion, understanding, faith, and service—a community that learns not only how to recognize those who are hurting, but how to walk beside them.

Through Ian's story, future books, conversations, resources, outreach, and opportunities to serve, we hope to reach beyond our own experience and create something that continues helping others long after the final page of Finding Ian is read.

We envision a future where grief is met with compassion instead of discomfort, disability with understanding instead of assumption, caregivers with support instead of isolation, and questions of faith with love instead of judgment.

Above all, our vision is for Ian's legacy to become a light carried from one person to another.

A boy who lived much of his life without words can still teach us how to listen.

A life that ended far too soon can continue touching lives for generations.

And a story that began in some of our family's darkest moments can become a light that helps someone else find their way forward.

That is the vision of Finding Ian: to turn one family's story into a continuing legacy of faith, understanding, compassion, and hope.

Ian’s Legacy

At the heart of every word, every story, and every person we hope to reach is Ian.

Ian may have lived much of his life without words, but he taught us lessons that words alone could never have taught. He taught us to look beyond what someone cannot do and discover who they are. He taught us about patience, unconditional love, faith through uncertainty, and the sacredness of simply being present.

His earthly life ended far sooner than we ever imagined, but his influence did not.

Every grieving parent who discovers they are not alone, every caregiver who finally feels seen, every person who looks differently at someone with a disability, and every struggling soul who finds the courage to hold onto faith becomes another place where Ian's light continues.

We cannot give Ian back the voice he lost.

But we can carry forward what his life had to say.

That is Ian's legacy.

And as long as his story continues bringing light into someone else's darkness, Ian is still speaking.

You Are Invited

If you found your way here because you are grieving, caregiving, searching for answers, struggling with your faith, or simply trying to understand how to better walk beside someone who is hurting, there is a place for you here.

We invite you to walk with us as Ian’s story continues.

Read his story. Share it with someone who may need it. Listen to the experiences of families whose journeys may look different from your own. Look beyond disability. Reach toward someone who feels forgotten. Sit beside someone in their grief, even when you do not know what to say.

You do not need to have the answers to make a difference.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give another person is simply letting them know, “You do not have to walk through this alone.”

And if you are the one walking through the darkness right now, we hope you will stay awhile.

Come as you are. Bring your questions, your grief, your faith, and even your uncertainty.

There is room for all of it here.

Welcome to Finding Ian.

May Ian’s story help you find a little more light for whatever road you are walking
